Espanola hosting Indigenous People’s Day for the first time

By Rosalind Russell – Although the Town of Espanola has always recognized Indigenous People’s Day, this is the first year the town is partnering with two First Nation organizations to host a day of Indigenous learning.

The town has partnered with Noojmowin Teg Health Centre and the Ojibway Cultural Foundation, various workshops will be held throughout the day for anyone who wishes to take part.

Some of the workshops include lacrosse, powwow dance styles, painting on birch bark, herbal teas, and storytelling, as well as view a display of cultural artifacts from the Foundation.

It all begins at 10 am, includes a complimentary lunch and everyone is invited to attend at the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex.
