As you may well know, the Espanola Lions Club has been supporting groups involving young kids in sports for yeas. Groups such as minor ball, hockey, soccer, Espanola Skating Club, pond hockey and Boogie Mountain are lucky to have dedicated executives and volunteers to make sure these programs run. Discipline, commitment, skill development are essential life lessons
But….what about the “big kids?”……. Does their love of sports wane as they mature. I think not.
There is an organization in town that continues on where the “minor” leagues have left off. E.H.S. Athletics fits the bill. The Lions club was pleased to share the “Lions share” of monies raised in our last round of Catch the Ace to the tune of $12,800!
The fund raising money will be used to cover some of the expenses that it takes to run extra-curricular teams and clubs. Uniforms, exhibition tournament fees, and costs for medals, banners and awards are necessary to run the program. The money will also assist students in need. When teams or individuals advance to NOSSA or OFSSA, this money will help offset the cost of travel, meals, and accommodation. This will allow all athletes to participate and to learn the values of teamwork, hard work, and dedication through sport.
On hand to receive the cheque are Jason Jacques and Nick Hannah, both teachers, coaches and “STELLAR SELLERS” of Catch the Ace tickets.
