Espanola’s Strategic Plan updated by Town Clerk/CAO

By Rosalind Russell – Espanola’s CAO recently provided an update to the municipality’s Strategic Plan to take into account the idling of the Domtar Mill last fall.

CAO Joseph Burke says the town’s 2023-2027 Strategic Plan was adopted by Council on June 13th of last year, and since then, municipal staff has focused on implementing the six priorities outline in the document.

Burke says the plan is a realization that with the idling of the mill, a priority is to aggressively extract tourism dollars from the Manitoulin-bound traffic and Sudbury area as well as marketing Espanola as a desirable place to live, work and start new businesses.

He also points out housing is the top priority with many new housing projects now under construction to meet the need.

It was also noted that despite the idling of the mill, several new businesses have been established in Espanola and that speaks well to the immediate future.
