Expanding Ornge with two new, very fast planes

By Rosalind Russell – The province is expanding Ornge Air Ambulance’s fleet by adding two larger, high-speed fixed-wing aircraft.  It’s part of a 93-million-dollar funding announcement that the province says will better connect people in northern and rural communities to the care they need when they need it.  Officials say the two new, high-speed, Special Mission Aircraft can travel longer distances without refuelling.  It means Ornge will be able to complete four long-distance transports per day — double the amount with its smaller planes.  The announcement also includes money for Ornge to hire more frontline staff to improve pre-hospital care and better serve Indigenous communities.
