Expansion of jail facilities

By Rosalind Russell – The province says more beds are being added to several adult correctional facilities to ensure jail safety and capacity in both the short and long-term.

A centre in Toronto and London will be repurposed and re-opened – with the province saying it will add 430 new beds by 2026 and accommodate minimum and medium risk inmates.

More beds are also being added in southeastern Ontario.

Officials say the increase in capacity will be supported by hiring up to 200 additional correctional staff.
