Feeling hot, hot, hot – wildfire season starts today

By Rosalind Russell – The province is ready to respond to this year’s wildland fire season – which begins today, April first, and lasts until the end of October.

That’s according to the Minister of Natural Resources Mike Harris, who says Ontario’s brave and dedicated fire rangers, pilots and support staff are all prepared to battle fires and protect Ontarians. Officials add that 100 additional permanent positions have also been filled this year.

According to the MNR, about 50 per cent of all wildland fires are caused by humans … they’re reminding you to always check the for fire hazards and restrictions before lighting a fire, follow burning regulations, and ensure your campfire doesn’t get too big and is fully extinguished at the end of the evening, or before leaving the site.
