By Rosalind Russell – There was an active fire at the Elliot Lake Landfill yesterday, but local fire crews were able to finally put it out.
City spokesperson Steve Antunes says residents were urged to remain away from the area and allow fire crews to do their job.
He adds the amnesty day scheduled for Friday June 2nd is cancelled and the landfill will remain closed until further notice.
The Elliot Lake Fire Department and Public Works Staff worked through the day to address the situation and the site was monitored through the late evening. monitor local air quality and respond accordingly.
