Fire in Webbwood, no fatalities, six families affected

By Rosalind Russell – Up to six families have been affected by a fire at a multi-use complex in Webbwood.

Tiffany Goodchild with the Sables-Spanish Rivers Township Fire Department says last Friday night around 11:30 pm, the fire department, assisted by the Baldwin Fire Department and other emergency services, were dispatched to the fire at the six-plex townhouse on Main Street in Webbwood.

She says the fire crews contained the fire to the one unit limiting the spread to the rest of the units in the building.

She adds the occupants in the involved unit were able to get out safely due to working smoke alarms and the rest of the building was evacuated.

Goodchild says there were no human injuries, but several dogs died in the blaze.

The smoke damage has rendered the units uninhabitable for the near future (up to 10 days) with the Red Cross providing immediate assistance and insurance adjusters on the scene.

Immediate needs, such as clothing, would be appreciated.

One of the residents, Shannon Denault, has compiled a list of clothing sizes for some of the residents of the unit.
