First Nation chiefs want investigation

By Rosalind Russell – The Chiefs of Ontario are demanding Premier Doug Ford commit to all of the Auditor General’s recommendations on the Greenbelt — including the recommendation to return all land parcels to the Greenbelt immediately.

A resolution was passed at an emergency chiefs assembly yesterday (Monday).

They’re also calling for a criminal investigation into the way Greenbelt lands were chosen for removal and the extent of any knowledge or involvement from the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing and the Premier.

The chiefs say First Nations have been given very little, if any, opportunity to be adequately consulted on the changes to the Greenbelt, despite the direct impact on First Nations’ inherent, treaty and constitutionally protected rights.
