Former Speaker, Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Michael Brown remembered

By Rosalind Russell – A funeral service was held for the former Algoma-Manitoulin MPP, Michael Brown last week.

Elected in 1987 as a Liberal, Brown held the riding until 2011 when he was defeated by then NDP and current independent MPP, Michael Mantha.

He served as Speaker from October 2005 to October 2007.

Brown lived on Manitoulin Island for much of his career as a funeral director before seeking office.

Following the loss, he spent a few years on the Island, then moved to Cookstown where he retired.

A funeral service was held on September 25th.

Brown was 74.
