By Rosalind Russell – Despite the weather over the last week, the Free To Be Conference hosted by the Rainbow District School Board was a big success.
Last Friday, Espanola High School art teacher Jayson Stewart hosted a watercolour painting workshop with more than 50 students creating their own affirming artwork.
The Board hosted the half-day symposium aimed at creating and enhancing school-based supports for students in Grade 7 and 8 who are members or have friends or family in the 2SLGBTQI+.
Since its inception in 2009, the event has expanded to include poverty, race, culture and disabilities.
During the event, students took part in various workshops.
A half-day symposium for students in Grades 9 to 12 will take place on Friday, May 9th.
