By Rosalind Russell – The Mayor of Gore Bay says he is looking forward to positive enhancements in the community this year.
Mayor Ron Lane says since late 2022 they’ve been working on a plan to ensure the town continues to have a long-term care facility in the community.
Lane says much work has been done towards that goal and they hope to be able to provide a firm update in the first quarter of this year.
He adds they also welcomed a new doctor to the family health team in November and the search continues for an additional doctor since the health care facilities in Gore Bay service all of Western Manitoulin.
He adds the revitalization and beautification of the downtown shopping area will also be upgraded including new paving, curbs and sidewalks.
In addition, Lane adds a new streetscape has been designed which will change dramatically the appearance of the core shopping area.
Lane hopes to have a definitive start date on that project soon.
