By Rosalind Russell – The City of Elliot Lake has released more information about the new hybrid museum that is to be opened in the city.
The city has purchased the Holy Trinity United Church, which disbanded in early summer.
Earlier this month, council approved the purchase and gave the thumbs up to turn the landmark church into a home for the museum.
The local museum was forced to close following the collapse of the roof of the Lester B Pearson Civic Centre in 2019.
The congregation sold the building and property to the city for $100,000.
With the approval, staff has begun the work to apply for funding to offset the cost of renovations to turn the church into the hybrid museum, performance centre and art space.
A report on those applications, and design plans will be brought back to council early in the new year.
