Inaugural PRIDE events planned for Espanola

By Rosalind Russell – Espanola council has endorsed Espanola PRIDE in hosting a two-day event in September, the first of its kind that will be held in Espanola.

Espanola PRIDE members Aya Dufour and Sarah Lachance appeared before council to ask for a donation to host the two-day event on September 9th and 10t at the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex Track & Field, which will feature games, information booths and activities for the community at large.

The recommendation came from the Recreation and Cultural Advisory Committee that council waive the fees associated with the track and field rental and cover the insurance cost for the First Annual Espanola PRIDE celebration.

Council also endorsed the installation of a rainbow crosswalk to be painted in collaboration with the organizers as part of the event.

The total amount of the donation to waive rental fees and installation of the crosswalk is estimated at $1,600.
