Jamie and Jo-Ann Armstrong Centennial Arena Fundraising Challenge surpasses goal

By Rosalind Russell – The Jamie and Jo-Ann Armstrong Centennial Arena Fundraising Challenge in Elliot Lake has surpassed its original goal of $500,000.

Elliot Lake Mayor Andrew Wannan says together with the challenge, Kraft Hockeyville, and donations from the community, the fund has raised just over $1,000,000.

The Armstrongs kickstarted the campaign with a $250,000 US donation which equated to just over $340,000 Canadian.

Jamie Armstrong says he and his wife are so happy that the town and the fundraising group met the challenge.

Wannan adds a public ceremony acknowledging the Armstrongs and the community effort in raising the funds is scheduled to take place upon completion of the repairs and reopening of the arena.
