(SABLES-SPANISH RIVERS TOWNSHIP, ON) – One person has been arrested and charged for multiple weapons offences.
On May 23, 2023, shortly after 11:00 p.m., members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a person residing on Massicotte Road who was in possession of firearms and did not have a valid Possession or Acquisition Licence. Further investigation revealed that this person had also threatened to shoot another person.
With the assistance of the Manitoulin OPP Crime Unit, police were able to locate this individual and an arrest was made.
Larry WITHERS, 60-years-old from Sables-Spanish Rivers Township was charged with:
· Careless use of a firearm
· Breach of firearms regulation – store firearm or restricted weapon – two counts
· Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
· Unauthorized possession of a weapon – two counts
· Uttering threats – cause death
The accused appeared before the Sudbury Bail Court and was remanded into custody.
