By Rosalind Russell – Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Mike Mantha says too many people suffering from addictions are forced to get their fix in seclusion, which he considers a dangerous practice.
Mantha is pushing the Ford government to pass legislation for safe and supervised consumption sites. He says it would mean someone battling with addiction would not risk injury and death from a poisoned supply, a lethal dose or contaminated equipment.
Mantha adds they effectively save lives and with opioid mortality rates in Northern Ontario communities three times higher than the provincial average, it is time for the Ford government to act.
He is calling on the Ford government to fast-track the process, so people get the help they need.
