Mental Illness Awareness Week

By Rosalind Russell – The Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health is leading the annual Mental Illness Awareness Week from October 6th to October 12th.

Co-chair Florence Budden says the theme for MIAW 2024, “Access for All: Time for Action, Time for Change,” emphasizes the need for concrete steps to improve access to mental health services across the country.

Her counterpart, co-chair Anthony Esposti, says updated legislation is needed to the national Mental Health and Substance Use Health Care Parity Act to ensure mental health and substance use health care is given the same priority as physical health.

Local services are hosting information sessions within their catchment areas and the public is encouraged to contact them individually for more details.
