Minimum wage going up

By Rosalind Russell – The minimum wage in Ontario will be $17.60 an hour.

The province announced the 40 cent increase yesterday, adding it’s effective as of October first.

Officials say the annualized wage increase is based on the province’s Consumer Price Index of 2.5 percent…. and brings our minimum wage to the second highest in Canada.

It comes up to about an $835 a year if a minimum wage work works 40 hours a week.

Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development David Piccini says now more than ever – workers and businesses need fair, balanced and predictable wages.
