By Rosalind Russell – Maintaining waterfront services, especially with the upcoming sailboat and cruise season around the corner, is of primary importance to the council of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands.
To that end, at its meeting earlier this month, Council approved the purchase of Little Wally’s Dock Service from Robert Little who operated the business on the Little Current waterfront for many years.
According to Mayor Al MacNevin, Little had listed the property for sale and the municipality affected the purchase as a means of ensuring that quality driven fuel sales would remain available in the Port of Little Current.
He adds Wally’s has always been a great addition to the waterfront and Council felt that it made sense to purchase the business to ensure they continue to provide fuel sales on the waterfront.
MacNevin says Harbour Master, Reid Taylor, will oversee the operation.
He adds council agreed to fund the purchase out of its waterfront reserve so there is no impact on taxpayers.
