New dog trail for Espanola

By Rosalind Russell – The public asked for it and The Espanola Game and Fish Club has provided a dog walking trail for fur babies and their owners.

Black Creek Sno-Trails lead Dennis Lendrum says the club has provided some private property as stewards of the boat launch at Black Creek, which will be dog friendly, on the other river bank across from the main trails.

Lendrum says volunteers John Gallinger and student Andy Reibel have put down a sand base on 95% of the trail, so it will be soft on dogs’ paws.

He adds they are collecting donations, up to $400, to install at least two benches along the trail, so anyone interested in assisting can do so by contacting him on Facebook or the trail’s official page.

He emphasizes the regular Black Creek Sno-Shoe Trail System allows no access for dogs from the Panache Lake Road entrance (Cross the new bridge, take the first left, and you are there.)
