New Elliot Lake counclllor to come from previous election list

By Rosalind Russell – Elliot Lake council was not unanimous in its selection of how to fill a vacancy, but it will be pulling from the previous 2022 election list.

Mayor Andrew Wannan and Councillor Charles Flintoff both wanted an open call, but the rest of council voted in favour of having the vacancy filled by an individual who ran in the last election.

With that decision, council will now receive the information about any eligible candidate who still wishes to be on council and will make their final appointment by March 25th.

There are six candidates who meet eligibility criteria including Sandy Finamore, Gary Kirk, Helen Lefebvre, Margaret Pollard, Tammy Van Roon and Ken Young.

The vacancy followed the appointment of Wannan as Mayor earlier this year and under the Municipal Act must be filled by April 12th.
