New piece of equipment arrives for Elliot Lake Firefighters

By Rosalind Russell – An important piece of equipment has arrived for Elliot Lake Firefighters.

Fire Chief John Thomas says the department received a 2024-25 Fire Protection Grant from the Solicitor General of Ontario, and the $8,230 went towards the purchase of a brand-new Heavy-Duty Extractor.

He says the new extractor has arrived and is used to decontaminate and remove potentially life-threatening carcinogens and other contaminants from firefighters’ bunker gear after a fire.

He adds the equipment will go a long way in improving the quality of life for staff reducing the chance of sickness or injury as a result of carrying out their duties.
