New walking path opens in Gore Bay

By Rosalind Russell – The Town of Gore Bay has opened a new walking trail, thanks to its partners in the project, The Gore Bay Rotary Club and the Douglas A Smith family, property owners in town.

Gore Bay Mayor Ron Lane acknowledged the new Lodge Trail adding it runs adjacent to the Renie Noble Nature Trail, off East Street, on property owned by the Douglas A. Smith family.

He says planning for the path started back in 2021 following some discussions he had with the family.

Lane says there was some funding left over from a grant it received for another trail project, so the Rotary Club stepped forward to help clear the trail.

He adds the club also received a grant last year to purchase a bench and picnic table, both of which are now located along the trail, which is about one kilometre in length and ends with a wonderful view of the Gore Bay Harbour and break wall.

Lane says the next step is to create a parking lot adjacent to the East Street trail entrance.
