New weightlifting champ hails from Sagamok-Anishinabek First Nation

By Rosalind Russell – A new weightlifting champ hails from Sagamok-Anishinabek First Nation.

Ojibwe athlete Ambrose Stevens-Paquette was crowned Top Female in the under 80-kilogram weight class, she weighs in at 76-kilogram,  at the 2023 Canadian Junior Weightlifting Championships held in La Prairie, Quebec in early June.

She picked up a bronze medal in the 80-kilogram lift in the snatch category, then capped it off with a 101-kilogram in the clean & jerk category to take the gold.

She is continuing her training at the Sudbury Weightlifting Club and is also studying firefighting at Cambrian College.
