North Shore Quilting & Stitchery Guild returns with its Community Quilts Day

The fingers were moving and the machines whirring this past Saturday at the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex with sewing machines scattered throughout the arena lobby

Members of the guild were on hand to not only work on a project but also to talk to members of the public about the work they carried out, not only for their own satisfaction and/or gifts for family but to assist the wider public.

The stitchers are well known for their generosity with their Quilters Who Care Program donating to the Espanola Lions Club toy drive to give to the 13-year-olds for Christmas, to those who are in tragic circumstances such as house fires or loss and are also found in OPP cruisers to give to those in trauma or need.

Quilt making is a dedicated hobby sometimes taking hundreds of hours to complete one quilt depending on the complexity of the blocks and the stitching details. A heirloom like no other.
