One outbreak ends, and another begins at Elliot Lake institutions

By Rosalind Russell – While one outbreak has been declared over, another has broken out at another Elliot Lake institution.

St. Joseph’s General Hospital CEO Jeremy Stevenson says the outbreak of influenza at the Camillus Centre has been declared over by Algoma Public Health.

However, he says the health unit has now declared a gastrointestinal outbreak at St. Joseph’s Manor.

He adds staff is also continuing to deal with an outbreak in the Medical Surgery Unit at the hospital.

He stresses only essential caregivers and/or those coming to the site for compassionate reasons should be attending and should be aware that may have to wear full protective equipment.
