(SAGAMOK FIRST NATION, ON) – One driver was arrested and charged for operation while impaired.
On May 16, 2023, shortly before 9:00 a.m., members from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service in Sagamok First Nation regarding a person passed out in the driver’s seat of a motor vehicle.
Police located the vehicle and upon speaking with the driver, it was determined the driver was impaired. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to OPP detachment for further testing.
As a result, Stanford OWL, 54-years-old from Sagamok First Nation was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Possession of a schedule I substance – methamphetamine
- Possession of a schedule I substance – opioid (other than heroine)
- Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
- Driver – fail to properly wear seat belt
- Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on July 5, 2023.
The accused driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
