(ESPANOLA, ON) – Four people have been arrested and charged with drug related offences after being stopped at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program.
On September 26, 2023, shortly before 1:00 a.m., members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E. on Centre Street in Espanola.
While a vehicle was stopped at the R.I.D.E., police detected an odour of cannabis coming from the vehicle and four people were arrested. A search of the vehicle was conducted and resulted in police locating drugs, suspected to be cocaine.
As a result of the investigation, Ashley CORBIERE-MCLEAN, 20-years-old, from M’Chigeeng First Nation has been charged with possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine.
Anawahs MIGWANS, 21-years-old, from M’Chigeeng First Nation has been charged with:
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
- Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
- Drive motor vehicle – no licence
- Operate unsafe vehicle
- Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
- Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
Gage BRIGHT, 21-years-old, from Toronto has been charged with:
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
- Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
Kaleb BORDEN, 21-years-old, from Thornhill has been charged with:
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine\
- Obstruct peace officer
The accused persons were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on November 6, 2023.
