(ESPANOLA, ON) – One person has been arrested in a historical assault investigation.
On March 6, 2019, shortly after 5:00 a.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Sudbury-Manitoulin Paramedic Services responded to an assault on Old Webbwood Road in Espanola.
The victim was operating a taxi when they were assaulted by the person they were transporting. The victim sustained minor injuries and police were unable to locate the suspect as they fled on foot.
The Manitoulin OPP Crime Unit continued the investigation, receiving a lead in July 2023, which resulted in the arrest of one person.
As a result of the investigation, Ivan SHANE, 60-years-old from Sudbury has been charged with aggravated assault.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on December 4, 2023.
