OPP CHARGE PERSON FOR MULTIPLE BREAK AND ENTERS IN ESPANOLA

(ESPANOLA, ON) – Police have arrested and charged one person for multiple break and enters that occurred in Espanola.

On August 17, 2023, shortly after 7:00 a.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a break and enter at a local business on Centre Street. Upon arrival, police determined that over $4,600 in Canadian currency was stolen from the business.

Then, on August 29, 2023, shortly before 3:00 a.m., OPP responded to another break and enter to a local business on Centre Street. In this case, multiple items were stolen from the business, with an approximate value of over $1,000.

And, on September 8, 2023, shortly before 7:00 a.m., OPP responded to another break and enter to a local business on Station Road. Over $4,600 in Canadian currency and a Samsung tablet were stolen.

Police were able to retrieve video surveillance from each of the businesses. After investigation, one person was arrested and charged.

Mark WEST, 38-years-old, from Sudbury has been arrested and charged with:

  • Mischief – destroys or damages property (three counts)
  • Theft under $5,000 (three counts)
  • Break and enter a place – with intent to commit an indictable offence (three counts)

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury on October 26, 2023.
