(SABLES-SPANISH RIVERS TOWNSHIP, ON) – On January 4, 2024, shortly before 2:00 a.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 at Birch Lake Road.
Investigation revealed that a commercial motor vehicle struck a pedestrian.
A person, 33-years-old, from Sables-Spanish Rivers Township was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The highway was closed for approximately 7 hours, which has now been reopened.
The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (T.I.M.E.) team.
