Rainbow District School Board seeks volunteer for Audit Committee

Rainbow District School Board, with schools in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin Island, is seeking a community member with financial expertise and business knowledge to serve on its Audit Committee for a three-year term.

The Audit Committee assists the Board of Trustees in fulfilling its duties related to governance and oversight. The Audit Committee is comprised of three Trustees and two volunteer community members.

Committee members focus on the following key areas: the financial reporting process, internal control framework, risk management practices, performance and function of the Board’s internal and external auditors, and the Board’s compliance with its obligations under legislation.

The Committee meets at least three times a year. There are also ad hoc meetings, as required. Formal training is available to clarify the roles and responsibilities of the Audit Committee.

Candidate Eligibility
Applicants must have sufficient accounting, senior financial management or legal expertise to understand public sector accounting and auditing standards. 

 

The applicant must not be a current employee or officer of the Board or of any other district school board/school authority or have a pecuniary interest, directly or indirectly, in any contract with the Board. 

 

The applicant must not have a parent, child or spouse currently employed by the Board.
