Repair rather than mitigation recommended for Centennial Arena

By Rosalind Russell – Elliot Lake council has received a final maintenance report from Timber Restoration Services recommending repair rather than temporary mitigation to the Centennial Arena.

Acting Public Works Director Bill Goulding says the final report recommends that the towers and trusses be repaired rather than shored up because of the findings.

He told council the repairs could begin early in the new year at a cost of $350,000, which will bring the total spent so far to near $765,000.

He adds new siding will also be installed to repair the damage done in part due to the feasibility study.

Council approved the funding so Goulding hopes to have a letter in his hands to proceed with the project by the end of January or the first week of February for the work to begin.
