Run for Women set for Blind River

By Rosalind Russell – The Run for Women fundraiser will be held this Thursday in Blind River to support local women’s shelters.

Organizer Sophie Azzi says she was involved in Filles Actives, a group of young ladies from école St-Joseph in Blind River led by teacher Heather Roberts who regularly got together after school to promote physical activities for girls in a safe and fun environment and they wanted a final event to wrap up the year.

Any girls and women can come out and participate in the 5 km run or walk on June 15 at 4 p.m. at the Boom Camp Trails for an entry fee of $10 to go towards local shelters.

Snacks and prizes will be provided to participants. Registration will take place that day at the Boom Camp Trails Ski Club trailhead in Blind River with proceeds going to the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation which assists the Mississauga First Nation Women’s Shelter and Maplegate House.
