SIU called in to investigate shooting in Greater Sudbury

By Rosalind Russell – The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the serious injuries suffered by a 40-year-old man on Wednesday in Greater Sudbury.

According to the release, on Wednesday morning, Greater Sudbury Police Service officers went to a residence on Jean Street to apprehend a man under the Mental Health Act. 

Officials say the man barricaded himself in his residence and attempts to negotiate with the man were unsuccessful. 

Later that afternoon, an SIU report reads there was an interaction with the man, who was armed with an edged weapon, and one officer discharged his firearm. 

The man surrendered and was transported to hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.

The SIU is asking anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator.
