Special council meeting for Huron Shores next week to fill council vacancies

By Rosalind Russell – Huron Shores council will host a special meeting next week to decide how to fill two vacancies on council.

Mayor Matthew Seabrook resigned on January 8th, and Councillor Roger Mulligan resigned on January 13th.

Council passed a motion last night declaring the two seats vacant and will meet next Wednesday, January 22nd at 7 pm to discuss their options in filling the vacancy.

They can choose to fill the vacancies by appointment from the larger community or from an individual who ran in the last election, host a by-election, or hold a callout for interested individuals.

Once the seat is declared vacant, the municipality has 60 days to either appoint a person or pass a by-law requiring a by-election be held.
