By Rosalind Russell – The Espanola council has approved a Special Recognition Awards and Naming Committee Policy.
CAO Joseph Burke says the previous ad-hoc committee was utilized solely for the purpose of the Wall of Fame event.
He adds that staff recommended the addition of responsibilities to this committee to assist Council when choosing a candidate for special award opportunities such as Senior or Volunteer of the Year award, and providing support to Council in the naming of community assets, such as streets, facilities, buildings and more.
In addition, their names will be submitted for consideration at the provincial and/or federal level during a call for nominations.
Burke says those nominations would be reviewed by the committee, which would then make the final recommendation to the council, which will make the final decision.
