The Ring of Fire moving forward

By Rosalind Russell – The Province, Marten (Martin) Falls First Nation and Webequie First Nation have all signed an agreement to develop community infrastructure projects including all-season roads to the mineral-rich Ring of Fire region northeast of Thunder Bay.

The Community Development Agreement signed on Tuesday commits the province to supporting shovel-ready projects like potential health and training facilities, recreation centres, and commercial buildings.

Minister of Mines George Pirie said the roads would enhance the well-being and livelihoods of the two communities and unlock “generational critical minerals potential”.

Officials say it also enables the First Nations to participate in the construction of road projects connecting the Ring of Fire with manufacturing hubs in the south.
