By Rosalind Russell – Ten-year-old Adele Bishop of Espanola has been awarded first place in all three musical theatre voice categories winning Diamond Awards at the 2023 Sudbury Music Festival.

Proud mother, Melissa Harrison, says her daughter was the youngest of the winners singing songs “I Whistle a Happy Tune” from The King and I, as well as “Maybe” and “Tomorrow” from the musical Annie.

Adele actually scored off the charts with a 94 for the song “Maybe”, and was invited to perform at the Music Festival’s Stars of Excellence Concert this past Monday, April 17th at St. Andrew’s Place in Sudbury.

She clearly impressed Michael Faulkner, her award-winning adjudicator as she received his personal recommendation to attend provincials with the Ontario Music Festival Association.

“Such tender vocal tones, fantastic vertical vowels, tuning is so assured. Believable, hopeful facial expression, very thoughtful. An outstanding performance. Brava Adele!”, says Faulkner.

At the concert, Adele was the proud recipient of the “Estelle Scappatura Music Award” for Junior Vocal.

Harrison adds her daughter has now been invited to attend provincials with the Ontario Music Festival Association in June.

She says her daughter also loves acting and recently played the part of Wendy in this year’s AB Ellis production of Peter Pandemonium and is now taking acting classes.
