By Rosalind Russell – The Corporation of the Town of Blind River is part of a provincial team of thousands of retailers across Ontario helping people recycle used household batteries, free of charge.
Mayor Sally Hagman says anyone living in the community can recycle household batteries for free at The Blind River Landfill during normal operating hours at 1182 Hwy 17.
She says the main reason is because we want to ensure the long-term sustainability of the community and landfill.
Hagman adds the battery recycling program allows the community to keep another waste stream out of the landfill, extend its usable life, and keep the long- term cost of this service as low as possible for residents.
The batteries recycled from the town will be processed at the E360Sbattery recycling facility in Port Colborne, Ontario using the most environmentally responsible technology available in North America.
Battery components are crushed and separated into various metals, minerals, plastic, and paper. 100% of each battery is recovered and reused and no materials are sent to the landfill.
