TWO PEOPLE ARRESTED AT RIDE PROGRAM

(BALDWIN, ON) – Police arrested and charged two people at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program.

 

On November 18, 2023, shortly before 2:00 a.m., members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E. program on Highway 17 in Baldwin Township.

 

A vehicle entered the R.I.D.E. and open alcohol was observed inside of the vehicle. Police were able to determine that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages and the driver was subsequently arrested for impaired driving. The driver was transported back to the OPP detachment for further testing.

 

A search of the vehicle was conducted and resulted in police locating an edged weapon, which was identified as belonging to the passenger. As a result, the passenger was also arrested.

 

As a result of the investigation, Christian TOULOUSE, 23-years-old, from Sagamok First Nation has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
  • Driving vehicle with cannabis readily available

 

Donovan TOULOUSE, 27-years-old, from Sagamok First Nation has been charged with possession of prohibited device for a dangerous purpose.

 

The accused persons were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on January 15, 2024.
