By Rosalind Russell – Rachal Manitowabi, the chief of Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory, has a race on her hands for the leadership role.
Seven individuals including Manitowabi have put their name of the ballot for the election, which will be held on August 17th.
She was the first female chief to be elected to the position in Wiikwemkoong.
There are also 22 candidates running for the 12 positions available on band council.
Mail-in ballots are also available for members of the band as of August 1st.
The band holds elections every two years.
