Young women empowerment in the trades

By Rosalind Russell – Espanola High School female students attended a special girl empowerment evening focused on the trades.

Last week, the Construction Specialist High Skills Major, a ministry-approved program that allows Gr. 11 and 12 students to focus their learning on a specific economic trade, held a dinner followed by a special building project.

Officials say the girls attended the Second Annual Think Trades Night, an event designed to inspire young women to be confident builders of the future.

Cyndy Hykin from the carpenters’ union and the apprentices helped supervise the students to build birdhouses.

If you are interested in registering for the Construction SHSM for your Grade 11 and 12 years, please see Mr. Keresztesi or Guidance for more information.
